Student Nursing Services

Student Nursing Services - School nurses play a crucial role in supporting the health and well-being of students in the district.  School nurses are needed to administer basic medical care, such as providing first aid for injuries, managing chronic conditions, and required training for staff members.  This allows students to focus on their learning activities without health concerns hindering their academic progress.

School Psychology Services - School psychologists play an important role in the school district.  They support academic needs and testing, while also providing support for the emotional well-being of the students within the academic setting.  These professionals specialize in understanding the psychological factors that impact student behaviors, focus, and learning.  School psychologists play an important role in the collaboration with district staff, students, and families.  They assist in identifying and addressing academic and social-emotional challenges that students may face in and out of the classroom.  They conduct assessments to evaluate student cognitive, emotional, and social development challenges and help to identify learning disabilities, behavioral and emotional issues that impact students ability to successfully learn.  They also play a role in identifying the proper intervention strategies and support plans on an individualized basis.  The South Central Ohio Educational Service Center serves as our community partner for school psychologists.

Mental Health Services - The district believes in providing opportunities for students to have access to mental health counselors in the district.  The district partners with Growing By Grace Counseling to provide mental health services before, during, and after the school day to students in need.  The mental health professionals provide a safe and confidential space for students to express their thoughts, feelings, and emotions.  By offering individual and group counseling sessions the mental health counselors can help to navigate various challenges students face when dealing with stress, trauma, and academic pressures.  Early intervention and support from counselors provide students the opportunity to deal with these challenges and lessen the impact on student learning.  The district is able to contract with Growing By Grace to provide two on site counselors.  These counselors also provide training to district staff to better understand and assist their students.

School Resource Officer -  The district also contracts with the Scioto County Sheriff’s Department to provide one full-time deputy on site throughout the school day.  This provides the staff, students, and their families additional comfort in a safe and secure school environment.

DPIA (Disadvantaged Pupil Impact Aid)

Local Reading Improvement and Intervention - The school district implements 90 minutes of dedicated reading instruction for students in K-2 classrooms.  This benefits students throughout their academic careers as learning to read is the most important skill the district can provide its students.  This extended time allows for a comprehensive and balanced approach to literacy development through skill development in the areas of phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.  Dedicating a substantial amount of time for reading instruction during the formative years, the district lays the foundation for literacy skills for students' academic careers, as well as throughout their lifelong journeys and careers.  The district partners with the South Central Ohio Educational Service Center to provide professional development opportunities and on-going support of high-quality reading instruction that will improve student growth and achievement.

Academic Interventions - Academic intervention with the assistance of intervention specialists is provided to students in grades K-12 who may not yet meet proficient standards and need additional support.  These supports are unique to each student and are provided on an individualized basis throughout the school day and school year.
