The Buck Fifty Presents the M.A.D.E.
Drug Free Clubs of America Rally
CHILLICOTHE, OH—When we first started to dive into the opiate epidemic four years ago, we had no idea all that we would learn, and how powerful a group of teenagers could become. Fast forward to today, and we have thousands of teens in Southern Ohio who will stand as one voluntary voice of being drug free on Friday October 25th, 2019.
Why do these students join? We found those answers during the surveys that are performed as part of the Drug Free Clubs of America Program. The answers vary, but these are the top 4: membership in DFCA looks good on applications, this program shows what I stand for, it makes my parents proud, and coaches or teacher will know I am drug free. I also want to be a role model to my peers and show them you can have fun and be drug free.
The Rally on Friday, October 25th at 10:00 am is a way for these teenagers to show they are taking a stand and fighting for their lives, fighting for their friends’ lives, and fighting to change the culture in their community forever. In years past, the Rally has had eight high schools from Ross County and Circleville High School from Pickaway County. This year we’ll go bigger, and we now have Springfield Clark CTC from Springfield and Clark County, South Webster from Scioto County, Buckeye Hills Career Center from Gallia County, and Westfall & Teays Valley also from Pickaway County. This will be a total of 14 high schools, but wait; there’s more. Greenfield McClain, Waverly, Piketon, and Jackson high schools are also wanting to start DFCA Chapters so they too will be in attendance with us to see how this program works. That total amount of 18 schools will bring over 3,000 teens together for one phenomenal day. We will first meet at the Chillicothe City Pool in the Park. They will first see the support from the Bikers we call The Buck Fifty Security Squad, who will ride through the park revving their engines. These teens will them march up the hill from the beautiful Chillicothe City Park down Paint Street to the Ross County Courthouse.
Our rally, like our program, will be student-led as they show the mighty power this program has given them. These teens will speak from the heart as to why they joined, why this is important and will chant to the heavens so we can all hear why living a drug free lifestyle is important. The students will be treated to lunch at the Chillicothe City Pool and a concert from the band Polarity. We will never stop fighting for these kids, and I hope you join us to see what can happen when we galvanize our efforts to make a better tomorrow.
