Week of 12/2 Basketball
This first full week of South Webster basketball brought three games. This included two on the girls side and one for the boys.
The Lady Jeeps hosted the Green Bobcats and Northwest Mohawks in their latest matchups.
On Wednesday against Green, they were not able to pull off a win as the final score was 51-28 Green. However, they did have good individual showings.
Junior, Addi Claxon, was the team’s leading scorer with a total of 14 points. Claxon also had 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Alongside her, Senior, Cailee Blevins had a solid performance. Her stats consisted of 6 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Sophomore, Eden Smith, had a great night on the boards as she gathered 7 total rebounds.
Thursday, the Lady Jeeps put together a hard fought game against Northwest but were still unable to snag a victory. This game was back and forth throughout all of regulation but the Mohawks pulled away at the end to just barely hang on.
Leading scorers for the team in this game were Addi Claxon and Cailee Blevins as they each had 10 points. Claxon had a brilliant 10 rebounds and 9 steals as well during this game which provided her a double-double and just barely away from a triple-double. Junior, Caleigh Benner, was the next highest scorer with 4 points. Benner had a notable clutch and-one that fired up the crowd and gave the girls even more life towards the end of this game.
In conclusion of these games, the Lady Jeeps are sitting 0-3 and a very notable stat is that Claxon currently sits fifth in division VII for total steals with 20. The Lady Jeeps have played extremely well and determined. These girls should be expecting some good wins throughout this season with this type of hustle.
They now prepare for their home game against Paint Valley tonight.
On the boys side, they too hosted the Green Bobcats. There was no shortage of Jeep spirit within this crowd. Bleachers were filled for an exciting season opener for Jeeps basketball.
The Jeeps pulled out a win but it was not as easy as the final score of 52-36 had shown. The first half consisted of a very back and forth defensive game. The outsized Jeeps struggled to finish plays that were routine for them. There seemed to be a lid on the basket in certain moments during the game.
Leading scorer was senior, Dylan Shupert with 20 points. Shupert seemed to take over this ball game during the second half. Junior, Brycin McClintic came alive in the second half as well to help in his first game as a true rotational player for this team. Between these two, Green had plenty of trouble stopping the Webster offense as the guys went on a 25-3 run at one point.
The Jeeps start the season 1-0 as they get ready for their game on Tuesday against the Northwest Mohawks.
