Week of 12/9 Basketball
It was an exhilarating time for Jeeps basketball this past week. The girls team put on three games while the boys had two.
To start the week off, the Lady Jeeps had a thriller at home against Paint Valley. The game stayed close through all of regulation but they pulled away towards the end to put one on the win column for the first time this season.
Addi Claxon put on a clinic in this game with a double-double that consisted of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Claxon also had 2 assists and 6 steals. The Junior did struggle from the arc but she still managed to throw down two threes when it mattered most.
The second leading scorer was Cailee Blevins. Blevins showed out with 11 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals. She had a big second half to drive these girls to victory.
On Wednesday, the girls traveled to Notre Dame and took on the Lady Titans. They unfortunately could not pull off the win but fought hard with a final score of 45-34.
Leading scorer this game was Cailee Blevins with a total of 15 points. To go along with this, she had 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 6 steals.
Kennedy Hamilton was the second leading scorer with 8 points. Addi Claxon played a strong defensive game with 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and a block.
Thursday’s game was a nail biter with Oak Hill but still managed to snag another win. Oak Hill started strong with a big time lead through the first half. The Jeep crawled their way back into the game to force OT. Oak Hill started well once again but could not hold on as the Lady Jeeps completed the comeback win.
Leading scorers for the Jeeps were Cailee Blevins and Addi Claxon. They both also combined for 15 rebounds while Claxon had an incredible 11 steals to complete another double-double.
These showings have Addi Claxon fifth in the state of Ohio for steals per game and third in overall steals with 40 this season. Across only Division VII, she is sitting in third for steals per game and second for overall steals this season.
The Lady Jeeps are 2-4 after these games.
On the boys side of things, calling this a good week would be an understatement. The Jeeps had strong individual and team performances that provided even more confidence than the team had before.
They played the Northwest Mohawks in their first game this week. They pulled off a win with an extremely good performance from Dylan Shupert. Shupert finished this game with a terrific 24 points. The energy from this senior was unmatched as there seemed to be nobody on the court as dominant as him in this game.
A bit of a surprise in this game came from the bench. Junior, Brigham Burton, got the nod to put on a show for the defensive side. Burton, in his first true varsity rotation, played a great game. He held down the paint on the Northwest big men and it showed. Burton even knocked down a three to extend the boys’ lead late in the game.
On Saturday, the boys took on a confident Eastern Eagles team. The Eagles just came off of a big win with a great performance to knock off Wheelersburg, The Jeeps had a different plan for them on this night however. The Jeeps got off to a great start with senior, Christian White, starting the game off with a three. From that point forward, it was Jeep basketball at its finest.
Beau Stephens had a terrific outing with a varsity career high of 18 points. This junior owned the first half with a fiery composure. This propelled the team to an overwhelming victory of 51-37 over Eastern while also ending the Eagles’ undefeated start.
The boys moved to 3-0 on the season in this victory.
