Week of 12/16 Basketball

The last few games before winter break were definitely entertaining ones. The varsity boys and girls teams each had three games this week.

On Monday, the Lady Jeeps took a trip to Kentucky for a matchup against Raceland. The first quarter was a competitive game but Racelend seemed to run away from the Jeeps through the second. While the Jeeps had a good second half, it was not enough to close the gap and took the loss with a final score of 59-45.

Leading scorers for the Jeeps in this one were Cailee Blevins with 18 and Addi Claxon with 17. Blevins also had 7 assists to go along with the performance. Claxon had a solid 7 rebounds in her showing.

Thursday’s game was at home against the Eastern Eagles. There were competitive moments in this matchup but Eastern seemed to have slightly better performances in each quarter that helped slowly extend a lead. The final was an Eastern win of 46-33.

Addi Claxon was the Jeeps’ top scorer with 11 but seemed to have struggled from the arc in this one. Claxon had 8 rebounds while her and Cailee Blevins combined for 9 steals.

The final game for the girls this week was on Saturday against Chesapeake. The girls took a loss with a final score of 59-37.

The game started close with a very tight first quarter. The performances from the Lady Jeeps were not enough to hang on though as Chesapeake ran away with this one very quickly after the 2nd quarter hit.

The boys’ first game was their first away game and it was at Oak Hill on Tuesday. The Jeeps ran into a determined Oak Hill team and it was a battle. A very tight battle through the whole game ended in a Jeep win with a final score of 47-44.

A rough start to the game was noticeable as Beau Stephens went out with an ankle injury that put him out the rest of this game and more in the future. The Jeeps could not get anything to fall in the first half and were getting dominated in the paint. The second half was taken over by Dylan Shupert who propelled the Jeeps to this victory to keep their undefeated season alive.

Friday’s game was at home against the Federal Hocking Lancers. Fed Hock comes into this game very young after losing a solid bunch of seniors from last year. It was noticeable as the Jeeps owned the game with a win of 75-39.

This game started with a hot start from Hunter Barnard and Dylan Shupert. This momentum followed with the rest of the team.

An important note to this game was that it was Eli Roberts’ first game this season and played very well. The team played smoothly with him on the court and should be a large factor for the future of this season’s success.

The last game this week took Webster to the Ironton Classic to face Huntington Expression Prep. A dominant performance from the Jeeps helped them run away with this big victory with a final score of 73-54. It was a matchup that truly showed that this team is back and even better for this season.

The victory was led by Dylan Shupert who had an outstanding game. The senior had 29 points that led the team. The team had a solid performance and seemed to play very well together as a group.
