Jeeps Handed First Loss
Webster basketball might have had their toughest week of the season but still have much to look forward to. This one covers the girls games with senior night and the boys losing a close one in their first loss but still finishing 2-1 on the week.
Girls Basketball
The Lady Jeeps started the week off against Minford. Minford sits as the top team in the SOC right now and it surely gave the Jeeps a tough matchup. They finished this game with a 53-19 loss. After Minford’s hot start of an 18-5 first quarter, the Jeeps could not find the necessary momentum to keep up with a Falcon team of this caliber.
A non-conference game was played against Jackson on Wednesday. Although it was a 53-35 loss, there were great performances from a couple individuals.
Addi Claxon had a great game with 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 steals. Cailee Blevins had 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.
Thursday was senior night for the girls. They took the 53-35 loss against Waverly but our lone senior, Cailee Blevins, was recognized and put out a terrific performance to follow it up.
Blevins threw down 14 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.
Boys Basketball
The boys started their week with a 65-40 win over West at their place. The Jeeps started hot and never looked back. A 20-8 lead to start this game gave them all the momentum they needed. While there were a few solid moments from the Senators, the Jeeps held their own.
Friday’s game brought a tough loss. The most anticipated game in the area came with the undefeated Jeeps and one-loss Minford Falcons. These two sit at the top of the SOC with a fight for the conference title.
The Jeeps started with a 3-0 lead but unfortunately could not take another lead for the rest of the game. Minford’s biggest lead was 13 points but the Jeeps kept it tight for the majority of this game. A stronger second half from Webster was not enough for Kaysor and Montgomery’s consistent scoring. Falcons walk away with the 57-49 win and the top spot in the conference halfway through the season.
The next matchup between these two is on February 18 in the last game of the regular season.
To finish the week off, they walked away with a win over Notre Dame on Saturday. The Jeeps came out in dominant fashion giving the Titans no shot at this one. The final score was 53-37 South Webster.
