Week of 2/10 Basketball

This past week of basketball was filled every single day with action. With the junior high tournament, we had some great games every day across junior high and high school. This one discusses the junior high champions, the high school girls’ tournament game and season recap, and the high school boys’ dominant win on senior night against Valley.

JH Champions

The annual junior high tournament gave another awesome set of championship games this year. The 7th grade girls winners were the Minford Falcons. The 8th grade girls were our very own South Webster Jeeps. They took it in dramatic fashion with only 4 players on the floor at the end of the game due to fouls. Valley took the 7th grade boys championship after overcoming a demanding lead from Minford to start the game. Finally, Wheelersburg 8th grade boys won a nail-biter against Webster in a game with great defense from both teams.

Lady Jeeps Season Recap

The Lady Jeeps finished up their season on Thursday against Racine Southern in the tournament. The girls unfortunately took a 56-35 loss. Addi Claxon played a great game with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Cailee Blevins was the second leading scorer for the Jeeps with 12 points.

Addi Claxon finished the season with 12.7 points per game and 5.3 steals per game. She finishes the season currently sitting at 3rd in division VII for steals per game.

Our lone senior, Cailee Blevins, finished up her high school basketball career. Blevins finished her career with 385 points and 79 games played after 4 years. Blevins has been an impact on the varsity team ever since her freshman year.

Jeeps Dominate on Senior Night

The boys team, cheerleaders, and band had their senior night on Friday in a matchup against the Valley Indians. Our recognized seniors were Owen Mault, Eli Roberts, Dylan Shupert, and Christian White for the boys basketball team. For the cheerleaders, it was Kate Mantell, Sadie Mershon, Sophie Mershon, Alyssa Yates, Brea Shupert, Lauren Kaltenbach, Marley Kresicher, and Chloe Maybin. FInally, the senior band members recognized were Logan Coppoletti, Grace Dew, Hayley Glascock, Breana Glascock, Caden Kelley, and Christin Woodyard.

This game looked to be what could be a solid game heading into it. The Jeeps absolutely did not let that happen. The Jeeps won the tip-off and kept winning from there. The game started with an Owen Mault score then Hunter Barnard 3-pointer to get the Jeeps off to a 5-0 lead. They then went to a 13-0 start. At one point in just the first quarter, Webster was up 21 points. The domination kept on and they headed into the final quarter with a 70-36 lead. Great fast breaks and transition readiness helped the Jeeps propel to a 80-52 win on a great senior night.
