Jeeps are State Bound
For the first time in 19 years, South Webster basketball is heading to the Final Four. The season dubbed as the Revenge Tour has been nothing short of spectacular and the Jeeps plan to keep rolling.
The road to the state semi game has absolutely been fun. It all started with the district semi-final against Whiteoak. The Jeeps ran away with this one. Eli Roberts highlighted the night with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Dylan Shupert added on with 11 points and 5 steals.
For the district championship, the Jeeps faced the Fairfield Lions for the second straight year of the tournament. An early lead from Fairfield couldn’t stop the Jeeps from rolling though. They took the district title in a 59-44 win. Leading scorer was Eli Roberts with 19. The second leading scorer was Beau Stephens with 14. Stephens owned the first half while slicing through the Fairfield defense with ease.
Regional semi was against Patriot Prep Academy. This was an extremely scrappy game and had extreme tension through all of regulation. Webster came out firing, taking a commanding 19-7 lead in the first quarter. A push from Patriot Prep was not enough and the Jeeps took the win with a final score of 58-44.
In the very anticipated Elite Eight matchup, Webster took on the very familiar Notre Dame Titans. The Jeeps won their regular season matchup in commanding fashion but the Titans had other plans this time. The game started and Dylan Shupert took two quick threes for the early Webster lead. Notre Dame fought well though and quickly took the lead while Myles Philips was hitting them from everywhere beyond the arc. Notre Dame went into the half with a strong 23-13 lead. South Webster fought back and quickly returned it to a tie ball game. With just little time remaining, Webster was up 36-34. Notre Dame owned the last possession but lock down defense from Owen Mault, Eli Roberts, and Beau Stephens had the Titans scrambling and could not get a shot off in time.
Cornerstone Christian
The Jeeps now head to Ohio Dominican to play Cornerstone Christian. After strong analysis from our well known Malakhi Rozell, we know what needs to be done to win this game. As a surprise to nobody, the defense must shut down Quinn Kwasniak. He will be trouble since coming into this game averaging 37 ppg and being the OHSAA’s all time leading scorer. Locking down role players will be needed as well. Not allowing offensive rebounds will help put away the second chance opportunities of getting the ball in Kwasniak’s hands.
The Jeeps do not plan on ending their season short of the title game and seem to be more ready than ever for this state tournament appearance.
