Big things are happening with the sophomores at SWHS. They are writing novels! That's right! November is NaNoWriMo...National Novel Writing Month. All over the nation, English classrooms are putting everything aside to write for 30 days straight and produce a novel. Ms. Ellsesser's classes are taking part and many of the students are quite excited. Students may write about anything they wish--from childhood memoirs to the Zombie Apocalypse! As soon as the clock strikes midnight on November 1, students will begin their tomes. Once the writing is finished, the rest of the year will be spent on activities such as polishing, editing, revising, illustrating, and maybe even publishing. Several book companies offer their services to help students realize that special dream of having a book written by them actually published!
Each class has a set word count to reach, ranging from 5000 to 10,000. Ms. Ellsesser is using the guidelines for adult writers and trying to write 50,000 words! It's going to be a challenge for all, but we feel certain we will all be proud of ourselves at the end. To mark the event, we have taken pictures of ourselves BEFORE we were writers. On November 30, we will take the after picture. Check back for updates on our efforts.
